Além do "Jogo do túnel”, do “lenço” ou do “poste”, também há o da “lata”, que passo a descrever: o miúdo que levar com a lata é sovado com violência. My illustration on SOL Newspaper, available this Saturday, about "Dangerous Games in School". Amongst others, this one is called “the can game”: who ever gets hit by the can, is violentely beaten by the other kids until he can find his way out the perimeter…

BACK TO BASICS

Acabo de enviar a minha colaboração para o SHAPETIONARY da Canadiana Margaret Flood. Um interessante projecto que me fez pensar no desenho de uma forma diferente. As instruções eram para fazer desenhos só com linha, a caneta, das palavras que me enviou. Cada desenho deveria caber num espaço de 3x3 polegadas (7,62 x 7,62 cm). Teria que desenhar só o objecto, fora do seu contexto, isento de qualquer tipo de informação exterior.

As minhas palavras foram:
Nerve cord, Netsuke, Neural arch, Nest,
Neutron star, Neutron bomb, Necklace, Needle

I just sent my submission for Margaret Flood´s Canadian SHAPETIONARY. An appealing project that made me look at drawing in a different way. The instructions were to do a simple line drawing, in pen, of the words given. Each drawing should be smaller than 3x3 inches (7,62 x 7,62 cm). I had to draw only the object, out of context, without any extraneous information.

My words were:
Nerve cord, Netsuke, Neural arch, Nest,
Neutron star, Neutron bomb, Necklace, Needle

For those interested and up to the challenge, the SHAPETIONARY is still still seeking for participants :)

Aqui há Gato...

...e não é caso para menos, já que “O Gato” foi o tema deste Festival Moura BD, que inaugurou este Sábado e se prolonga até 3 de Junho. Para quem, como eu, infelizmente não poderá deslocar-se até ao Alentejo, aqui ficam as minhas participações e uma boa notícia: este ano ganhei o prémio de "Melhor Banda Desenhada” no concurso do Festival :)

“Cat” was the chosen theme for this year´s Comic Festival Moura BD, that started this Saturday and will be available for all visitors until June 3rd. For those, like myself, that unfortunately won´t be able to go to there to see it, here are my submissions and one good news: this year I won the “Best Comic" award of the Festival´s Competition :)

Hej hej! Ou “Olá!” em Sueco. Faz hoje uma semana que estivemos em Lund no Sul da Suécia. Tentámos passar desapercebidos, mas as pessoas sabiam sempre que eramos estrangeiros (faz-se lá perceber porquê :)
Visitámos os nossos amigos Maria Esaiasson (também ela ilustradora) e Erik Johnsson (estudante de Direito) .E pelo seu intermédio fizemos novas amizades e até alguns contactos de trabalho. Para todos eles: Maria, Erik, Martin, Filip, Jadwiga, Calle, Görel, Petra Tufvesson, Lia Yamada, Malin Sjöberg, Joakim Lindblom e NKTOB, pela simpatia com que nos receberam, o meu muito obrigado. Ou como se diz na Suécia: Tack! Foram uns dias de férias muito divertidos

Hej hej! Or “Hi” in Swedish. A week has gone by since we´ve been in Lund, in Southern Sweden. Although we tried our best to go unnoticed, people always knew we were foreigners (go wonder why :) We visited our friends Maria Esaiasson (also an illustrator) and Erik Johnsson (Lawyer to be). And through them, made new friends and even some working contacts. To all of them: Maria, Erik, Martin, Filip, Jadwiga, Calle, Görel, Petra Tufvesson, Lia Yamada, Malin Sjöberg, Joakim Lindblom and NKTOB, for your warm welcome, my sincere thanks. Or as we say in Sweden: Tack! It was great fun.

On my first commission for Sunday´s EL MUNDO MAGAZINE, I was asked to create and illustration showing the 8 possibilities to wear the new NIKE´s Sport TOP. Along with each one of the different views, I organised it an 8 shape lay-out :)Here´s the original illustration and the result on paper.

There´s nothing like taking a break from work with a slice of Karine Mantoux´s Chocolate cake, our French friend and fashion designer living here in Madrid.
Since I can´t (nor want!) give you a taste of this mouth-watering sinful delicacy, I´ll leave you with my homage to the BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE IN THE WHOLE WORLD. It doesn ´t surprise me that I cannot keep it out of my mind…:)

Exposição em Madrid: “Estereotomia #16”

"Estereotomia #16” ou “a arte de dividir e cortar regularmente os materiais de construção” é a minha primeira exposição individual aqui em Madrid, que inaugura hoje e pode ser vista até ao dia 17 de Março, no Extraño Espacio da galeria Sins Entido.

O trabalho exposto faz parte de uma série de ilustrações de técnica mista (colagem e caneta de aparo com tinta da china sobre papel de 80x60 cm), em que o cenário, para além de situar e introduzir possíveis personagens, assume ele próprio esse papel.

"Estereotomia # 16" or "the art of regularly dividing and cutting construction materials", is my first solo exhibition here in Madrid, that can be seen starting today and until March 17th, at the Sins Entido´s Extraño Espacio gallery.

The displayed work belongs to a series of mixed technique illustrations (collage and ink drawing pen with Chinese black ink on 80x60cm paper), in which the scenario, besides putting in context possible characters, assumes itself that same role.

987 autores de 84 países participaram no 16º concurso Euro-kartoenale. Os meus desenhos foram seleccionados para a exposição dos melhores 250 Cartoons (entre os 4000 enviados) que terá lugar de 8 de Abril a 8 de Julho, no Centro Europeu de desenho humorístico, em Kruishoutem (Bélgica). O tema desta edição era “Chaves e Fechaduras”.

No less than 987 cartoonists of 84 countries participated in the 16th Euro-Kartoenale contest. My submissions were selected amongst the best 250 cartoons (out of 4000 entries) to be exhibited, from April the 8th to July the 8th, at the European Cartoon Center, in Kruishoutem (Belgium).The theme of the competition was « Locks and Keys ».
