"2 + 98 Livros para o futuro"

Dois dos livros editados pela Everest em que sou o autor das ilustrações foram escolhidos pela Direção Geral do Livro e das Bibliotecas (DGLB) para figurarem nos "100 Livros para o futuro", uma selecção de cem livros editados em Portugal entre 2010 e 2012, ilustrados e escritos por portugueses, que irão à Feira do Livro Infantil de Bolonha deste ano para representar o que se faz em Portugal na edição de livros ilustrados Portugueses :)

Já agora, aproveito também para dizer que há um terceiro livro no qual estou agora a trabalhar e que será editado este ano, uma vez mais pela EVEREST.

Two of my books published by Everest,  were chosen to appear in the "100 Books for the future", exhibit, a selection of one hundred books published in Portugal between 2010 and 2012, illustrated and written by the Portuguese, who will go to Bologna Children's Book Fair  his year to represent what is being done in Portugal in the Portuguese edition of illustrated books :)

By the way, take the opportunity to say that there is a third book in which I am now working and will be released this year, again by EVEREST.

E por último o Elefante, num desenho cheio de "incorrecções", feito gradualmente, deixando que a linha encontre o seu rumo. O Elefante não coube inteiro na dupla página do diário gráfico, mas de onde estava sentado, também não o conseguia vislumbrar na sua totalidade sem mexer o olhar. É um desenho feito com um método de tentativa e erro, sem mais pretensões do que simplesmente registar o que estava a ver. Sem saber muito bem como explicar esta sensação que tenho, acho que acima de tudo é um desenho "honesto"... Depois destes desenhos no MNCN, outros virão... Até à próxima terça-feira :)

And last but not least came the mighty Elephant in a drawing full of "mistakes", made gradually, allowing the line to find its way on the page. The Elephant did not fit the whole sketchbook´s spread,but then again from where I sat, I also couldn´t see it in one single glance without moving my eyes. I sketched it following a trial and error method,with no other pretension other than simply recording what I was seeing. Without quite knowing how to explain this feeling I have, I think that above all it´s an "honest" drawing... After these sketches done at the MNCN, others will follow... See you next Tuesday :)

É assim que me sinto depois da maratona que foi desenhar as 16 ilustrações do meu próximo livro em colaboração com a escritora Margarida Fonseca Santos, para a EVEREST (Portugal). O livro vai se chamar "Conversa de elefantes" e será editado em Setembro deste ano ;)

Sem pretensões de queres ser um ilustrador científico, devo confessar que estes estudos dão-me imensa vontade de sair do estúdio e poder desenhar estes e outros animais no caderno de campo...

Not being a scientific illustrator, I have to confess that these studies make me want to leave the studio behind and wonder in the wild to be able to draw these and many other animals in my field sketchbook ...
