In my sketchbooks, drawings are gradually losing importance as a result, earning a increasing value as a process. I do not care if they look "beautifull" or are "well sketched". I am interested in the unique and unrepeatable experience that I live while drawing, whatever ends up on paper...

CAMARASAURUS GRANDIS

In the collections of the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid there are also trophies (hunted before 1930...). The ones I have at home are always kept within the pages of my sketchbooks...

Aves Mix

After the "hangover" of the (memorable) sketchbook workshop in Cascais: D an image from a morning spent at the Museum of Natural Sciences of Madrid in the company of seabirds (mostly)... The spread is stained by previous sketches and the drawings were made with a pen nearly used up? Ah, yes, but you know, this is what a sketchbook is all about... ;)

Phascolarctos cinereus

Despite being wear out, with an unlikely pose and not properly identified, it would appear that it is a koala... It was sketched at the Visitable Warehouse of the Natural Science Museum of Madrid. Today I have one another morning dedicated to drawing animals in this magical place. I say no more ... :)

Sketchbooks have allowed me to return again and again to the same themes and models, giving me the opportunity on one hand to vary the way I interpret them graphically (experimenting with different materials and ways of drawing) and on the other, allowing me to keep a constancy in this activity that, often against all odds, I stubbornly insist on exploring: that of drawing. As an example, here are these two young lions of the MNCN that had already been drawn HERE.

Canis Lupus Arctos

Drawing on sketchbooks, has allowed me to try new things without fear of restraints or of making mistakes. Is this not the foundation for all learning? This old and worn embalmed Arctic Wolf (Canis lupus arctos) was sketched in the MNCN of Madrid, first with the gray background freeing the animal´s white silhouette, then with the yellow coat and only in the end with the final line work.
